7 of The Most Beautiful Landscapes in Malta
From gorgeous seascapes to lush green valleys and flat-topped hills, the natural wonders that characterise the Maltese Islands can be found on land and underwater - a treat for snorkellers and divers as well as tourists and local nature enthusiasts! The team at Malta Chocolate Factory shares a few of their favourites below.
1. Dingli Cliffs
Staging the highest point of the Maltese Islands (approximately 253 metres above sea level), Dingli Cliffs offer spectacular sunset views which overlook the open sea, the small terraced fields below and Filfla, the tiny, uninhabited island just across. Perched on the edge is a tiny chapel dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene.
2. The Blue Grotto
If you’re itching to capture a snapshot of the Mediterranean blue at its most picturesque, then the Blue Grotto is a must-see. Located on the Southern Maltese coast, its visitors are treated to a dazzling combination of bright sunlight and phosphorescent colours of the submerged flora along the neighbouring system of caverns.
3. Ghajn Tuffieha
This pristine landscape could not have been more aptly named (“Apple’s Eye” is the English translation) as the home to three of the most beautiful beaches in Malta. With amazing views and crystal clear water, it’s the perfect summer destination for both tourists and locals.
4. Buskett Gardens
Planning a weekend picnic? Head over to Buskett, where you’ll find a veritable oasis of beautiful trees, bushes, shrubs and flowers. Situated just south of Rabat and east of Dingli, it is one of the greenest areas in Malta and the island’s only woodland area.
5. The Pembroke Heritage Trail
The inhabitants of Pembroke are famously proud of their quiet and green little town – and for good reason. The garigue habitat that makes up the Pembroke Heritage Trail covers about 2.5 kilometres, with an ecological richness that features various flora and fauna, including endemic, endangered and threatened species.
6. Ghasri Valley
With breathtaking views and a small, pebbly beach, Ghasri Valley is another feather in Gozo’s figurative cap. This narrow creek consists of a winding inlet surrounded by high cliffs and blue waters, a haven for swimmers seeking a quiet bathing spot.
7. Fomm ir-Rih
For fantastic views as well as tranquil surroundings, it’s hard to beat Fomm ir-Rih. As the island’s wildest, most isolated beach, it’s a paradise for both keen hikers and swimmers.
